Summer Cinema: 500 days of Summer
The last Summer Cinema at Studenterhuset will go down tonight, and it will be with the amazing “500 days of Summer”.
“There’s only two kinds of people in the world. There’s women, and there’s men. Summer Finn was a woman. Height, average. Weight, average. Shoe size, slightly above average. For all intents and purposes, Summer Finn was just another girl. Except she wasn’t.”
We jump back and forth in time: by day 67, they’ve become an item, when Summer decides to put aside the lovemaking and just be friends. Tom, a romantic who’s sure Summer is the one for him, wallows in self pity. We go back to the early days and see the relationship begin. Summer tells him right away that she doesn’t believe in love. He mopes well past day 100. Then, as day 500 approaches, they find themselves at a wedding together. Does the old flame rekindle? Is Tom right that destiny controls love?
The film received Best Original Screenplay and Best Screenplay awards at the 14th Satellite Awards and 25th Independent Spirit Awards, respectively, as well as two nominations at the 67th Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy (Gordon-Levitt).
Join Studenterhuset’s Film Club for this forth – and final – Summer Cinema in our courtyard.
We will provide blankets and popcorn, but feel free to bring your own blankets, pillows, and snacks. Just remember to buy your drinks at the bar, as you are not allowed to bring your own drinks!
